Atelier, a creative drinks studio and cocktail bar from award-winning drinks creator, Robert Wood, is set to open in a restored factory in the Jewellery Quarter’s Newhall Square this September.
Like a true atelier, the space will be a workshop that offers complete creative freedom, allowing Robert to express his ever-changing interests and ideas through drinks. Open for just a few nights a week for a handful of guests each evening, and with each menu available for a limited time only, guests can expect a constantly evolving experience. Reservations are now open for the first Atelier menu, ‘Terroir’, which runs from 22nd September to 12th November 2022.
Unexpected, esoteric, and, above all, absolutely awesome drinks await. As custodian and creative talent behind Atelier, award-winning drinks maverick Robert Wood looks forward to welcoming guests to enjoy an evening in his studio. Twenty years in the drinks game make him a force to be reckoned with and have seen him attract accolades from the likes of CLASS, Imbibe and Top 50 Cocktail Bars. He’s the man behind the curtain of many of Birmingham’s best loved drinks programmes, as well as the mind behind two of its most forward-thinking cocktail bars, 18/81 and Smultronstalle.
His new venture, Atelier c/o Robert Wood, will follow in the footsteps of these boundary-pushing bars,
sharing their spirit of restless curiosity and experimentation. As a workshop and studio, creative freedom is at the heart of Atelier, acting as a space for Robert to explore his ever-changing ideas and interests. Each menu will be available for just 8 to 12 weeks, and each will be a laser-focused expression of Robert’s current creative obsessions.
‘Terroir’ will be the first menu at Atelier, available three nights a week from 22nd September to 12th
November 2022. ‘Terroir’ is an exploration and celebration of the native pantry of the British Isles, with
three distinctive experiences on offer. ‘Terroir, 874 Miles’ is a 7-course cocktail tasting experience that
takes guests on a journey across the UK celebrating a plethora of landscapes and their esoteric flavours and ingredients – expect a thoughtful progression of drinks in a multitude of forms served by Atelier’s expert team.
Alternatively, guests are invited to settle in to Atelier’s beautiful lounge and enjoy house cocktails from the ‘Terroir’ a la carte menu, all of which celebrate the unexpected flavours found across the British Isles. Guests who prefer a concise, but tailored experience can also select the ‘Terroir, GB365’ tasting experience, a 4-course menu that reflects British seasonal changes.
Atelier c/o Robert Wood is housed in a Grade II listed building that dates back to 1838, which formed part of the Elkington Mason & Co electro-gilding and plating works, one of the most important and influential manufactories in the Jewellery Quarter. The Atelier interiors blend inspiration from high-end retail, hospitality and domestic designs to create a relaxed, everyday luxury. The design is intentionally international, with a strong influence from turn-of-the-century and ‘60s Scandinavian design, as well as influences from Japanese fine dining, embodying the approach of Japanese minimalism (reflecting Robert’s diverse design interests). As Robert’s creative home and studio, Atelier offers an intimate and relaxed experience where guests are given a glimpse behind the curtain of the creative process.
Reservations for ‘Terroir’ at Atelier c/o Robert Wood are now open for dates between 22nd September to 12th November, and can be made via www.atelierbyrobertwood.com. Atelier seats just 26 guests and is open Thursday to Saturday. The team will endeavour to accommodate walk-in guests, but advance booking is highly recommended.
