The Jewellery Quarter

Over 150 independent retailers, more than 80 bars and restaurants, 3 museums, The Jewellery Quarter is one of the most exciting destinations to visit in the West Midlands.

As the centre for Birmingham’s creativity scene, the JQ (as locals call it) is the home of Birmingham’s makers & creators and is a buzzing hive of activity every day of the week.

Well known for producing over 40% of the UK’s jewellery, the Jewellery Quarter is also fast becoming a mecca for foodies and cocktail lovers with Michelin starred restaurants and award winning bars.

The Jewellery Quarter is home to Europe’s largest collection of businesses involved in the gold and jewellery trade and is also the location of the world’s largest Assay Office, which hallmarks around 12 million objects every year.

The area has also had a significant role in the development of industrial technology and manufacturing with both James Watt and Matthew Boulton two of the Quarter’s most famous residents.

The Jewellery Quarter still retains its wonderful heritage but has also become a centre for creative businesses and has, over the past decade, attracted substantial amounts of private investment.

Over the past decade, apartments and townhouses have sprung up in converted buildings or on land that has become derelict, with Festivals and weekly events tailored to the thousands of young professionals that now live in the area.

Life in the Jewellery Quarter

Issued ever Quarter, the JQ Life magazine provides an insight into every day life in the Jewellery Quarter.
