Sheltered courtyards and beer gardens
202 Kitchen – This colourful JQ venue specialises in TrapBox food with a slap-up menu! Now taking bookings for their private outdoor garden from 12th April. Don’t miss the chance to eat some seriously delicious grub and sip on colourful cocktails in your favourite company.

Rock & Roll Brewhouse – Birmingham’s first 100% vegan brewery, creating small batches of finely balanced beer. Paired with their love of music it makes for a perfectly relaxing night out.

The Clifden – Didn’t someone say beer garden? It doesn’t get much more iconic than a sunny weekend at The Clifden in their quirky backyard retreat. With award-winning food on the menu and a long list of wines, beers, spirits and alcohol free options on tap. Get your bookings in for the 12th April onwards ASAP – we guarantee they will book up!

The Pig & Tail – this hidden gem, tucked down Albion Street, holds another secret – a beer garden! Now taking bookings from 13th April and filling up fast. Be sure to order food as the new kitchen takeover are none other than Lisa & Pann, serving up authentically delicious South-East Asian food.

The Red Lion – a traditional pub, The Red Lion is known for their award-winning Sunday Roasts and friendly atmosphere. The cellar boasts a huge range of premium lagers as well as local draft ales. Their sheltered beer garden is the perfect place to relax and catch-up with loved ones over some heart warming food. Now taking bookings from the 12th April onwards.

Saint Paul’s House – a boutique hotel, restaurant and bar, Saint Paul’s House is ready to welcome you in 2021 for all your UK Staycation dreams! For now bookings are open for their sunny courtyard where guests can enjoy Bottomless Brunch and gorgeous Sunday Roasts together.

The Rectory – Classic pub grub in a cosy JQ courtyard, the stuff of dreams! The newly revamped menu features everything from burgers and sandwiches to nibbles and small plates. A full range of beers are on tap and the cocktail menu is extensive. Open from 12th April onwards, so book a date and grab your best friends for some quality catch-up time together!

Rooftop views
The Button Factory – If you say rooftop chances are we will respond with “Button Factory”? The original rooftop destination spot, this lively venue on Frederick Street offers fantastic views of the JQ. The roof-terrace, plus their two beer gardens, makes The Button Factory a top contender for re-opening drinks with mates – now taking bookings from 12th April onwards.

The Church – Fancy a rooftop terrace but not the wind and the stares? Book a spot (quickly, they’re going fast!) at The Church for a secluded rooftop bar experience! Serving up delectable soul food and refreshing drinks.

People watching from the curb
1000 Trades – bringing a new lease of life to a listed building, this classic pub puts community at the heart of everything they do. From serving local beer, to being a food hub for Slow Food JQ and hosting music and comedy nights. Planning to reopen on 17th May so keep an eye on their social media for updates.

Acapella – Sipping cocktails in the sunshine and listening to fresh tunes – summertime here we come! This live music venue has a completely revamped outdoor terrace with lush greenery and views of historic JQ buildings.

Actress & Bishop – A cult Birmingham venue, best known for their live music and late-night DJ’s. Although it may be a little while before we can enjoy live events at the Actress & Bishop again, their gorgeous outside dining space is due to open from 12th April on a first come first serve basis. Look forward to real ales and cocktails sitting in the picturesque surroundings of Ludgate Hill.

Ana Rocha Bar & Gallery – Part Spanish tapas bar, part fine art & antiques gallery – this is a cult venue like no other! Although we may have to wait a little longer to linger over the quirky and beautifully curated collection inside, we can still enjoy tapas and beer in the sun!

Bake Even Cakery – If you have a sweet tooth then look no further than Bake Even Cakery! From sparkling cocktails and rich hot chocolates to Hershey’s Dream Cakes, Boozy Cupcakes and even cronuts – these guys have got you covered. Prebook a seat outside for you and a friend and enjoy some truly indulgent treats.

Coffee Tales – Renowned for their cakes and sweet treats – all made in house – this beloved JQ cafe has been busy delivering cakes for takeaway and delivery! The perfect place to grab a cuppa and a snack and have a seat outside to catch-up with a friend. Especially good for any vegan friends & family.

Damascena – The mixed mezze platter, need we say more? The JQ branch of this renowned Birmingham chain opened 2019 serving up classic middle-eastern food and sweets in their gorgeously decorated restaurant. Still open for take-away and delivery, we look forward to using their outdoor seating soon to snack on a falafel wrap in the company of friends.

Jojolapa – With their sheltered outdoor seating spots just outside the front door, Jojolapa is the perfect place to enjoy a lunch or dinner date with someone special! With their extensive range of vegetarian options and exciting flavours, this is sure to become your new favourite haunt. As of the end of March, they are open for collection & delivery but stay tuned for re-opening dates.

Lunchi – Situated in the heart of the JQ on the Golden Square for the last 30 years, Lunchi have made a name for themselves a menu that changes daily featuring classics like pies and frittata as well as their legendary sandwiches and baguettes! Stay tuned for their re-opening dates and a chance to do some people spotting on the Golden Square.

Rose Villa Tavern – classic American-style diner food in a traditional listed English Pub, a match made in heaven! With a large outdoor seating area there’s no better spot for people watching while enjoying cocktails and delicious ales on a summer night. The RVT is hosting online events until their re-opening on 18th May.

Saint Kitchen – Doughnuts and bagels, is there anything better in life? This independent cafe in the hear of Saint Paul’s Square serves up both in abundance, with a plethora of toppings and flavours. Grab a cup of coffee or loose leaf tea and have a seat with views of the historic Saint Paul’s Church. Currently open for takeaway & delivery but keep an eye for re-opening dates.

Semedos – Get the grill out! This Portuguese inspired restaurant specialises in peri-peri chicken, burgers, sizzling steaks and luscious lamb chops. Currently available for delivery & takeaway but stay tuned for the opening date of their dedicated outdoor seating. With views of the Chamberlain Clock and Warstone Lane Cemetery.

Soda Bread Cafe – This friendly neighbourhood cafe is a real community hub! Organising charity raffles, customising orders to your preference, and converting the cafe into a mini corner store during the pandemic in 2020. They took advantage of the summer weather in 2020 to add additional outdoor seating and will be looking to do the same soon in 2021.

The Jewellers Arms – This cosy classic pub features a fireplace and upholstered seats on the inside, serving a huge range of hand-pulled beers, gins and wines. Their perfectly located outdoor picnic tables will soon be heaving with regulars and visitors alike enjoying a pint in the sunshine. Keep an eye on their social media for official opening dates.

The Wolf – Craft beer Nirvana! The amazing folks behind The Wolf have channelled all their energy and expertise into creating possibly the best craft beer shop we’ve ever seen. We can’t wait for the doors to open so we can enjoy a cold pint in the sunshine alongside some pies, or the wine & cheese platter, with some much-missed friends.

Urban Coffee – Renowned for their brunch options, whether you go for the pancake special, a halloumi wrap or avocado on toast – you will not be disappointed! Coupled with perfectly foamy coffees and a plethora of tea options. Hit them up for lazy weekend mornings soaking up the sun and good vibes on the Golden Square with a friend.
